August & September Happenings

Castlewood Couples Golf Tournament
August 3-4, 2013
Pleasanton, CA

Hal & Debbie invited us to play at their home course and it was lots of fun.  Although we all had moments of “WTF was that shot”, we also made some “wow” shots.  We walked away with 4th place, and we also had a winning raffle ticket.  Overall we got a nice set of highball glasses and enough winnings in the Pro Shop to buy Hank a new pair of golf shoes.  Thanks Hal & Deb for the invite and your wonderful hospitality!!  Look at these pictures… I’m always the short one!

Having Fun at Joey’s

5th Birthday Party

August 10, 2013

Of course Joey LOVED is new Hulk outfit

The theme of the party was Super Hero’s and the tattoo station was VERY popular with the kids (even some of the adults got into it…. not to mention any names Mike!)

Here are the kids proudly showing off their tattoos.

Jimmy set up an obstacle course that was really fun for the kids.  He divided the kids up in teams with each team having a Super Hero name such as Spiderman, Ironman, etc.

They had batting to see who could hit the ball the farthest.

Each kid had to carefully carry a water balloon through a tunnel, then into a tent and out the side door, weave in & out of poles, and jump over an obstacle.  All this of course without breaking the balloon!  Needless to say, almost all the kids got wet at some point in time.

Joey’s cake was actually a great big yummy cookie!

Of course there was ice cream with all the toppings to go along with that cookie.

The kids LOVE the pool… can you tell?!?!?

Woofstock

August 25, 2013

We love this annual event.  It’s so much fun to hang out with all these cute doggies of all shapes and sizes.  As you can see, the dogs and their owners really get into the theme.

They have lots of dogs up for adoption.

They always have an area for the dogs to cool off in little pools.

They usually have demo’s from trained attack dogs.

Our Trip to Oregon

August 27 – September 3, 2013

We enjoyed a wonderful week in Oregon visiting Whitney & Paula and Bud & Helen.

Along with just hanging out, playing chicken foot domino’s, golfing, shopping, and doing girly things, we also did a little sight seeing.  Whitney & Paula took us to Latourell Falls, which you can see in the background.

We also went to Crown Point, Columbia River Gorge.  It was so beautiful the day we toured.

We also went on a 2 hour Champagne Brunch on the Portland Spirit.  The food was plentiful, the champagne flowed freely, and the cruise down the river was great while sharing time with awesome friends.

We were also very happy that we were able to spend a day with Bud & Helen.  They are the parents of my friend that was killed in 2007.  They live on the coast just outside of Tillamook.  We did a little site seeing on a very overcast, warm & muggy day.

We toured the Tillamook Factory, enjoyed the cheese samples, and gorged ourselves on the wonderful ice cream.  The assembly line is pictured below.  It’s very interesting to learn how the cheese is made and how much milk goes into the making of the cheese.

Bud & Helen own the 1,000 acre farm and cows (well they are actually retired and their kids run the farm now) that produce all the milk for the Tillamook cheese.  It was so interesting to see the farm, the milking station, the huge tractors and equipment needed on the farm.

Here are the baby cows, which are kept separate from the other cows… so cute!

There is also a section for the “teenage” cows.

Here’s where the cows eat.

I believe all these cows are in the field and ready for breeding or ready to give birth.

The last night at Whitney & Paula’s we had a family BBQ with their kids and grandkids.  I used to babysit their kids, so it’s really fun for me to see them all grown up and with their own kids.  When the kids were little they couldn’t say my name Kathy Frank, so they called me “Kaffy Rank”…. too darn cute I’d say!!!  It’s funny how certain names stick with you to this current day.

We only have a couple pictures of some hedges we tore out of the front yard to open it up little.  We want to plant other stuff, we just don’t know what we want right now.

Here’s what it looked like before…

We are in the process of turning the formal living room into our office/den and we’ve been spending a ton of time on that project.  There was so much research to do on the flooring, office furniture, getting quotes, etc.  We’re taking before & after pictures and will post them as soon as we’re done with the project so you can see the progression of the project.
